War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Services are comprised of 24-hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, iREAP Day Rehabilitation program, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, and day centre program, 24-hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services. It is set within beautiful tranquil grounds and is a well-supported team environment.

The Assistant in Nursing (AIN) works within the inpatient aged care rehabilitation ward at War Memorial Hospital (WMH). The successful candidate is responsible for the provision of high quality specialist nursing care for aged care rehabilitation patients in a safe and competent manner under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses.

The role of the AIN supports the assessment, planning and delivery of nursing care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team to achieve patient centric goals and health outcomes. The AIN reports to the Nurse Unit Manager and is readily supported by the NUM, Clinical Nurse Consultant, Clinical Care Co-ordinator and Clinical Nurse Educator alongside a committed nursing team.

This is a casual position across a 24/7 rotating roster.

Selection Criteria

1. Certificate III in Health Service Assistant – Acute or Aged Care or 2nd year undergraduate nursing student

2. High level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

3. Capacity to work effectively under supervision and within a multidisciplinary team environment

4. Commitment to personal and professional development

5. Understanding of Work Health & Safety principles

6. Demonstrated computer literacy

7. Demonstrated interest in working with the elderly

8. Demonstrated understanding of Aged Rehabilitation

All Category A NSW Health workers are required to have received an annual seasonal Influenza vaccination or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. COVID-19 vaccinations are strongly recommended for all NSW Health workers.
