About the role

This is a varied Child & Family Counsellor role supporting children, young people, individuals and families through counselling, therapeutic interventions and community-based support.

You'll work with clients experiencing trauma, grief, mental health challenges, family difficulties and complex social circumstances, with a particular focus on young people aged 10–25 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

You'll build trusted relationships, deliver evidence-based interventions and work alongside local services to connect clients with the right support.

Your key responsibilities:
  • Provide individual, child, family and group counselling
  • Conduct assessments, safety planning and referrals
  • Deliver trauma-informed and strengths-based interventions
  • Develop and facilitate programs for young people
  • Support young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness
  • Undertake community outreach and engagement
  • Work collaboratively with local health and community services
  • Maintain high-quality case notes and documentation
Essential Criteria

We're looking for a compassionate and adaptable practitioner with:
  • Experience in remote, regional, Aboriginal community-controlled or culturally diverse services is highly regarded.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mental Health, Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or a related field
  • Experience providing counselling to children, young people and/or families
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and strengths-based practice
  • Strong communication and group facilitation skills
  • An understanding of mental health and social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB)
  • A commitment to culturally safe practice
  • The ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Current Australian driver's licence
  • Full Australian working rights
