Curis Recruitment is excited to partner with this fantastic Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) in Western Australia to find an experienced Counsellor, Psychologist, Social Worker or Mental Health Nurse to join their Social & Emotional Wellbeing team.

This is a unique opportunity to make a genuine difference within a remote Aboriginal community while experiencing a part of Australia that few people get to see.
You will join a supportive multidisciplinary team delivering culturally safe, community-focused mental health and Social & Emotional Wellbeing services.

  • A salary of $115,000 plus 12% Super
  • $2,000 Curis bonus on completion of 3 months' service

About this Health Service
This Health Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) that has been providing holistic and culturally secure healthcare to remote communities since 1993.
The service provides comprehensive primary healthcare, emergency services and community-based programs to the local community and surrounding areas.

You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team including GPs, Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Paramedics, Aboriginal Health Workers, Aged Care staff and the Social & Emotional Wellbeing team.

About your Role
As a member of the SEWB team, you will provide culturally safe mental health and Social & Emotional Wellbeing support to individuals, families and the wider community.

Working both autonomously and as part of the multidisciplinary team, your responsibilities may include:
  • Providing individual counselling and therapeutic support
  • Conducting mental health and psychosocial assessments
  • Supporting clients experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma and other mental health concerns
  • Supporting clients experiencing complex social and emotional wellbeing issues
  • Developing individualised care and recovery plans
  • Providing crisis intervention and risk assessment where required
  • Supporting clients affected by alcohol and other drugs
  • Providing brief interventions and evidence-based therapeutic approaches
  • Working closely with Aboriginal Health Workers and community members
  • Supporting culturally appropriate mental health promotion and education
  • Coordinating referrals to specialist mental health and community services
  • Liaising with GPs, nursing staff, external providers and other stakeholders
  • Supporting continuity of care for clients with complex needs
  • Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and case notes
  • Participating in multidisciplinary case reviews and care planning
This role is not just about your clinical or therapeutic skills. This role would suit someone who is empathetic, resilient, culturally aware and comfortable working autonomously in a remote environment.

This role is grounded in mutual respect, collaboration and working alongside staff and community as equals. Building genuine trust and strong relationships within the community will be central to your success in the position.

Essential Requirements


To be considered for this position you will ideally have:
  • Qualification as a Mental Health Nurse, Counsellor, Social Worker, Psychologist or other relevant mental health professional
  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse if applying as a Mental Health Nurse
  • Relevant professional registration or eligibility for membership with the appropriate professional body if applying as a Counsellor
  • Previous experience working within mental health, counselling or Social & Emotional Wellbeing services
  • Experience working autonomously or within a community/primary healthcare environment
  • Strong assessment, counselling and case-management skills
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to provide culturally safe and trauma-informed care
  • Full Australian Working Rights
  • Current unrestricted driver's licence
  • A willingness to undertake further study
Previous experience working within Aboriginal Health, or a regional or remote healthcare environment will be highly regarded but is not essential.
